Will my system still generate power during a blackout?

Your solar power system itself will not generate power during the night or during a blackout. With solar storage, your system can continue to be powered in the event of an outage. Some regulations may apply that require systems to be turned off for large blackouts for the safety of workers. Solar storage can be used as a battery backup in this case as well!

Can I take my home off the electrical grid?

Yes, however it does have a few drawbacks. In order to go off the grid you need to install optional battery-backup systems to provide power when your demands exceed your production, such as at night. Several batteries will be needed in the case. While an Envirosolar Power installer can help you install such a system, it is not typically recommended. This process will significantly increase your upfront cost and delay the point in which your system pays for itself. Also, off the grid systems are not eligible for some incentives through the government. Finally, when you go off the grid there is no backup so you may be without power at some time or another.
